TAMPA BAY 56ers Building Villages Across The Bay
|
The Tampa Bay 56ers continue to
support local charities. In 2009, the
Tampa Bay 56ers donated
$1,000.00 to the North Pinellas
chapter of Toys for Tots to buy
bicycles for needy children.
In addition several members and
friends volunteered their time to
help with the sorting of the
donated toys. Joyce Gillen, Leslie
Gully, Conrad Krause, Denis Gillen,
and Dave Sweeney along with
other community volunteers spent
an afternoon sorting out the
truckloads of toys.
As each truck brought in hundreds
and hundreds of toys from the
various pick-up sites, we sorted the
toys out by gender and age and
sent to the apprpriate stations. It
was fast-paced work, but everyone
there never complained. It was a
wonderful experience and we all
left appreciating all the wonderful
work the Marine Corps Reserve
does for the underpriviliged in our
community.
